2) Will there be construction in the open spaces (Castle District) during the first week?

For your planned visit between 1–7 September 2026, the Buda Castle District, Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and the Royal Palace area will operate under normal public access conditions. Walking around the district and guided visits are fully allowed during these dates.
Please note that the Budapest Wine Festival will take place from 9–12 September 2026. During the festival period, the Royal Palace courtyards (which are otherwise freely accessible) become ticketed areas. Movement within these courtyards will be tied either to a valid festival wristband or a museum ticket, and there is no free access in those zones, including overnight. The wider Castle District streets, Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church remain accessible as usual.
Kindly also note that restoration works under the National Hauszmann Programme are ongoing until approximately 2028. Currently, Wing A of the Royal Palace, the former Military Headquarters and the Joseph Palatine Building are under construction. These areas are fenced and clearly marked, and pedestrian routes remain open, though visible works should be expected.

Private cave tours are available with a full house booking (for 20 or 25 guests with additional at a different private rate). If you are arriving with a large group kindly contact us via email so that we can send a quote for the private cave tour in the Buda Castle District (need to be arranged 2 weeks in advance, typically).

I just read there is a wine festival happening in the Buda castle from 12-15th Sept and it will be closed for all tourists to view the castle.
