Buda Castle Royal Palace Experience

Be immersed in the incredibly rich history of the Buda Castle and take in the most opulent and intricate designs of the peak of the Habsburg empire in the fascinating wealth of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. St Stephen’s Hall is the gem of the Buda Castle district: your scheduled guided tour in the museum inside the Royal Palace will give insights into the turbulent history of Hungarian nobility and the fortress/ castle atop the Buda Castle Hill. The Castle tour includes professional commentary from the live guide and you will also get a headset to improve audibility throughout the group visit. Kindly note that this Castle tour does not allow self exploration as the museum has a designated path with pre-booked time slots for each visitor (visits with tablets also available if you would rather visit the museum at your own pace). In the Royal Palace Experience tour, you will be guided in a group tour (similarly to the Hungarian Parliament visits) and you will have a chance to ask your own questions from the guide.

Note: Booking Calendar dates open month by month. Please check back if the date is not available yet.

Hello, my mom and I would like to visit Buda Castle, Fisherman’s Bastion, and Matthias Church privately(No Tour) on April 9 with a Spanish audio guide. I’m a student of the EU. My mom is Peruvian. Could you let me know how to book tickets online? It would be perfect as early as possible.

    • Dear Alejandra,

I am happy to confirm that a student ID in English should generally be sufficient to receive the student discount.
Fisherman’s Bastion: Discounted student tickets are only available for purchase on-site. Please note that there is no online booking option for student-discounted entry.
Matthias Church: Tickets (without a guided tour) can be booked in advance via the official website.
St. Stephen’s Hall: Tickets are available online. Kindly note that English or Italian audio guide is available for the visit.

  4. Hi
I have booked for the Parliament and the Basilica combo ticket. It says meet at the Parliament building for the 11am entry. What time is the Basilica or is an open ticket for that day or any day? Thank you

    • Dear Jonathan,

Kindly note that the combo experience you booked does not include Buda Castle or the Royal Palace (Buda side of Budapest). The programme takes place on the Pest side of the city, and this specific package is operated by an external vendor.

Based on the official description of your ticket:

      Parliament visit (fixed time):
You are required to be at the Parliament Visitor Centre (Kossuth Square) for your 11:00 entry.

Please arrive approx. 15 minutes earlier
      Enter the Visitor Centre
Show your voucher (printed or mobile)
      Join the security queue
Kossuth Square is easily accessible via the M2 red metro line.

      St. Stephen’s Basilica:
For the Basilica part, this is typically not a fixed-time guided entry within the combo.

  5. Hello, two of us seniors would like to visit St. Stephen’s Hall on May 11 with an audio guide. How to we book tickets online ahead of time just for that location? We will wander the rest of the Buda Castle grounds without a tour.
    Thank you,

    • Dear Linda,
Thank you for your inquiry regarding your visit to St. Stephen’s Hall.
We have emailed you with further details.

  6. To visit inside Buda Castle and the dome terrace, must one book a tour or can tickets be purchased that allow self guided tours?

    • Dear Sherri,
If you are planning to visit only the outdoor grounds of the Buda Castle complex or the lower terraces of Fisherman’s Bastion, please note that there is no admission fee, and no tickets or prior booking are required. The castle courtyards, terraces, and open-air areas of the Royal Palace are freely accessible to the public. Open-air areas of other attractions in the Buda Castle District may not necessarily be free of charge to visit.

Tickets are only needed for specific indoor attractions (such as the Royal Palace museums or exhibitions, Matthias Church, or special parts like the upper terraces of Fisherman’s Bastion), but for a simple walk around the historic castle grounds, you are welcome to enter at your convenience.

Please note that the Dome can only be accessed with a ticket to the Hungarian National Gallery.
