Special features: Some of the toilets are accessible and baby-changing facilities are also available. These toilets are approx. 3 minutes from the Castle museums on foot, leading down the Stockl Stairs or you can use the lifts if an accessible route is preferred with limited mobility, buggies or wheelchairs.
Fisherman’s Bastion & Matthias Church – Public Toilets
First-time visitors sometimes assume that Fisherman’s Bastion is part of Buda Castle Palace, or even the Castle itself. In fact, these two major attractions are approximately a 15–20-minute walk apart, connected by the historic streets of the Buda Castle District, with several other sights along the way. Both offer panoramic terraces overlooking the Danube and the city.
Public toilets are available at both locations, but there is an important practical difference: toilet options are more limited around Fisherman’s Bastion and Matthias Church, where the main public facilities are also fee-paying and can become busy, which may be the reason for the current low ratings / reviews. In contrast, the Royal Palace area offers considerably more restroom options with higher ratings, including free public facilities at the Royal Riding Hall (one level lower than the Castle grounds, somewhat hidden from the major walking routes) as well as toilets inside the museums and other visitor facilities.

These are the main public toilets serving Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and Holy Trinity Square and the most convenient option when sightseeing in this part of the Buda Castle District. Kindly note that as this is one of the busiest visitor areas, the toilets can experience longer queues during peak sightseeing hours, particularly when large tour groups are present. If preferred, there are multiple cafes, restaurants in the vicinity where toilets are available with food / drink consumption.
Clark Adam Square – Lower Funicular Station at the foot of Buda Castle Hill
This convenient public toilet is available for visitors using the Buda Castle Funicular or walking between Castle Hill, Chain Bridge and the Danube. The facility is on level -1, essentially underneath the lower Funicular station area.

Buda Castle Garden Bazaar – Underground Car Park Toilets
One of the most useful free and lesser-known public toilet options around Buda Castle. The toilets are located inside the Buda Castle Garden Bazaar Parking facilities: underground car park on level P1. Use Entrance D and continue to the P1 level. The facilities are somewhat tucked away within the parking area and can be easy to miss if you do not know where to look. These toilets are at the foot of the Castle Hill

This is a particularly convenient option when approaching or leaving Buda Castle from the Várkert Bazár / Danube side.
Restaurants & Cafés – Buda Castle Hilltop
There are several restaurants and cafés throughout the Buda Castle District, several of which remain open well after the museums and attractions have closed. Their toilets are available to customers of the respective restaurant or café, so consumption on the premises is normally required. This can be particularly useful in the evening after museum facilities have closed.

The following facilities are farther from the principal sightseeing route but can provide useful alternatives when walking around the residential streets and slopes of Castle Hill.
Szaffi Playground – Public Toilet
The toilet is located at Szaffi Playground, on the hillside, close to Disz Square, which is one of the main bus stops in the Buda Castle District. It is also one of the closest playgrounds in the Buda Castle District to major attractions, including the Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church, former Red Cross headquarters, and the former Defence Forces High Command building (currently under restoration as part of the Hauszmann programme)

Rumini Playground – Public Toilet – Buda Castle hillside on the way to Batthyany Square
The toilet is located at Rumini Playground, on the hillside near Mária Square and Batthyány Square, a major metro, tram and bus hub within walking distance of the Buda Castle District. It is also one of the closest playgrounds to the Castle District and is themed around Rumini, the brave mouse and his nautical crew, characters from the popular Hungarian children’s stories.

Located at Rumini Playground on Mária tér, below the main Buda Castle District. This is a useful alternative for visitors walking between Castle Hill, Batthyány tér and the Danube side.
Although not located on Castle Hill itself, but nearby on Gellért Hill, families visiting Budapest with children may also enjoy Vuk Playground, a lovely hillside playground offering plenty of activities for children to let off steam.
