Szekszárd Wine of Hungary – The Home of Kadarka
One of Hungary’s oldest wine regions, Szekszárd is celebrated for producing elegant, spice-driven red wines with silky tannins. The region is also renowned for its expressive interpretations of Hungary’s famous Bikavér blend.
Villány Wines – Hungary’s Premier Red Wine Region
Located near Hungary’s southern border, Villány with its mediterranean-like climate, enjoys the country’s warmest wine-growing climate, making it the leading region for full-bodied red wines. Eger – The Birthplace of Bull’s Blood
The historic wine region of Eger in north-eastern Hungary is synonymous with Egri Bikavér (“Eger Bull’s Blood”), Hungary’s most iconic red wine with its characteristic name easily recalled. Steeped in legend and dating back centuries, Egri Bikavér has become one of Hungary’s best-known wines internationally, representing the country’s proud red winemaking tradition. The Bull’s Blood of Eger must contain a blend of at least three permitted red grape varieties, with Kékfrankos (Blaufränkisch or Blue franc) serving as the backbone, blended alongside grapes like Kadarka, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
