The Funicular cable car in the Buda Castle District (between Adam Clarks Square by the Tunnel and the Castle hilltop) is periodically maintained. The Funicular closes every Monday on odd weeks for maintenance, except when the Monday falls on a public holiday. In such cases, maintenance will be carried out on the next working day following the holiday.
The maintenance days change from year to year.

In certain scheduled periods, if needed, the Management of the Funicular may decide to carry out longer maintenance works at the Funicular at the Buda Castle, which may mean partial or full closure (please always check if a given date will be operational / open or partly or fully closed during such days).
Apart from the maintenance days, you can enjoy single or return rides on the nostalgia vehicle. Also, you can book tours / tour packages that include a Buda Castle Funicular ride, such as a customised Private Tour or Castle Tour with Funicular and Cruise

Does the Palinka Festival take place this October and if so which days? Can I pay in euros?

no, I am afraid, the Palinka Festival will not be held in 2019.
Will the funicular be operating on October 2, 2019. We were told today (oct. 1) that it was closed. However, the web site says closed from oct. 9 to 18.

I am afraid, we know nothing about any closure for 2 October.
A more thorough maintenance will take place from Oct 9 to Oct 18, therefore the Funicular at the Buda Castle will be closed during these days.
